Australia Day Boot Camp and Beep Test

Once again, we'll be taking part in the Australia Day celebrations at the Wrest Point Sandy Bay Regatta. This year we’re running a Bootcamp session and a Beep Test session for free as part of the many outdoor activities that are happening on the day.

The Wrest Point Sandy Bay Regatta is one of the major celebrations of Australia Day in Hobart, hosting the City of Hobart Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony in conjunction with the Hobart City Council. The event is centred on a mix of events and activities on the water, beach and land and honours the traditions of the community regattas of the past.

Before the sailing and rowing events start, everyone and anyone can take part in the Bootcamp training session and the Beep Test session. You’ll be put through your paces by the instructors from All Aerobics Fitness.

Aussie Day Boot Camp

When: 9:00AM, 26 January 2020
Duration: 45-50 minutes
Where: Long Beach Reserve, Sandy Bay

Boot Camp gets its name because it’s loosely modeled on aspects of fitness training used in the military. Each training session contains a series of drills and exercise routines that are designed to challenge your physical capabilities. It’s a great way to improve your strength and cardiovascular fitness in a team building environment.

Boot Camp training commences with dynamic stretching and light aerobic exercise - just to warm you up. That’s followed by a wide variety of interval training routines, including lifting or pushing objects, pulling rubber straps or ropes, body weighted exercises, plyometrics, and various types of explosive exercise routines. You could be working as part of a small team, just like you would if you were in the military. After all the hard work, there’s always a good stretch session at the end.

You’ll need a good pair of running shoes, comfortable exercise clothes, a full drink bottle and some energy to get through the challenges ahead. Why not get into the spirit of the event and wear your camo gear? Did someone say camo face paint too? Bring your mates and get ready to workout in the great outdoors. Bring your giggle box too because this will be fun!

Aussie Day Beep Test

When: 10:00AM, 26 January 2020
Duration: 30 minutes
Where: Long Beach Reserve, Sandy Bay

Do you want to know just how fit you are? Taking part in the Beep Test will give you the answer.

A beep test is a multi-stage fitness test used to measure cardiovascular fitness and maximum oxygen uptake (VO2 max). It is commonly used by coaches and trainers to measure athlete fitness, or used as a prerequisite for police, emergency and military organisations.

You’ll do the Beep Test at the same time as everyone else on the day. This is not a competition or a race; and it’s not about who’s better than anyone else. It’s simply a drill that will give you a score on your own physical performance. Sharing the experience with others is a great way to give yourself that little bit extra motivation to get the most out of taking part in the test.

All you need is a pair of running shoes, comfortable exercise clothes, a full drink bottle and some energy for about 5-15 minutes of running on the grass. Come along and test your limits!
